CONSULTING AND WORKSHOPS:
“Lory is a well-known expert in project management and system engineering, and leveraging that experience, she is an outstanding facilitator for team-building and organizational development. At AUI, we recently engaged Lory as a consultant to help us with the preparation of a significant proposal, including getting the leadership team ready for the oral presentation phase. She handled the assignment with the highest level of professionalism and provided expertise to the effort that could only come from someone who has lived in the world of actually delivering projects and managing improvements in systems engineering. Given AUI’s focus in delivering large facilities for R&D and driving improvements in the operations of those facilities, I will absolutely be engaging Lory in the future, both as a resource for proposal preparation and review as well as a subject matter expert for delivering on projects. I will strongly recommend her to any organization with similar needs as mentioned above.” Adam Cohen, President and CEO at Associated Universities Inc (AUI)
“A few years ago we (NASA Office of Chief Engineer) requested the assistance from Lory Wingate on a revision to our Research & Technology Project Management Policy document (NASA Procedural Requirement 7120.8), and also NASA’s Systems Engineering Requirements and Processes (NPR 7123). Ms. Wingate’s insights, experience, and outside perspectives were absolutely invaluable on our efforts to ensure our management and engineering policies remained relevant and value-added. Lory offered her vast experience and insightful, often instructive, perspectives, which ensured that our project management and systems engineering policies continued to promote NASA’s success. Additionally, her insights coming from outside NASA were no less than exemplary, ensuring that our own biases were not impeding progress and, instead, maximizing organizational improvement. Lastly, Lory is simply a great person to work with–warm, considerate, and professional in all her interactions. All in all, Lory Wingate’s participation in our efforts will no less than ensure NASA remains a preeminent agency for research and technology development, and her support to NASA was no less than exemplary.” Steven Hirshorn, Chief Engineer, NASA Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate
“Lory provided a workshop on project management to a group of approximately 30 lab staff that came from a vast difference in disciplines and exposure to project management principles. She tailored the workshop to include our own projects for use during the workshop. This took a bit of preplanning and homework on the part of the organizers and participants but allowed the workshop to be productive from the start. I think it also sent the message that this was going to be a workshop where every participant would be expected to engage during the 4-day workshop. Everyone stayed active throughout the entire full 4 days, even working through lunches and breaks on their assignments. It was as much about teamwork as it was project management, which is a crucial lesson. It was excellent to watch scientists, engineers, computing experts, and business office staff work in teams and learn from each other. I conducted a post workshop survey and received a lot of positive feedback. We would definitely work with Lory again in the future. Highly recommended! As a side note….Lory has been mentoring me in risk management and has been a great mentor. If you are looking for one-on-one mentoring reach out to Lory. She has a wealth of knowledge and is a great collaborator.” Hannah Hansen, LIGO Laboratory Chief Operations Officer
PUBLISHING AND DESIGN:
“I would like to extend my deepest thanks to Lory Wingate from Creative Space, LLC. As someone who has published a few children’s books, I understand the struggles and challenges that come with being a new author. Even with prior publishing experience, many companies still consider me a “new” author, often requiring the involvement of an agent or charging exorbitant fees. I was fortunate to come across Lory through a recommendation from a friend. Within just a few short months, I was able to submit my manuscript for her review, discuss my vision as an author, review illustrations, sign a contract, approve the final product, apply for a copyright, and finally see my book go live! Throughout the entire process, Lory was incredibly helpful, responsive, and professional. Her attention to detail, commitment to my project, and efficiency in getting the book published left me thoroughly impressed. I highly recommend Lory to any new author looking for a smooth, supportive, and high-quality publishing experience.” Lisa Criss Children’s Book Author
“Lory Mitchell Wingate was a delight to work with on my first effort in becoming a published author. Frankly, without her I would not have made the effort. Lory used her skills and devices to organize over 500 of my industry blog messages into a format where I could then update, edit, and create a book for the chamber of commerce industry I’m very proud to offer. You might say she got me over the hump that I could not do as a novice in authoring a book. We set a timeline for publishing, and she saw to it that we finished ahead of schedule, without applying pressure on me. It was an excellent experience and one I hope to repeat soon.” Patrick H. McGaughey, IOM, CPF (Ret.), Author of Chamber World – Insider Secrets to Chambers of Commerce
“I published my second novel with Creative Space, LLC. My first novel was self-published but I wanted to try an independent publisher for my second. And I am thrilled with the results. Not only was working with Creative Space a continuous pleasure, but the attention to detail was exemplary. The cover artwork–both front and back–were creations of Creative Space and so imaginatively compliment the story I’ve created. Additionally, Creative Space professionally moved the book through the production and eventually publication processes seamlessly and, what was particularly appreciated, with frequent communication, keeping me abreast of status and changes. Lastly, working with Lory Wingate is an absolute pleasure – not only due to her professionalism and attention to detail, but also to her demeanor and sincere desire to craft a piece of art which I, as the author, can be proud of. I highly recommend anyone wanting to publish to use Creative Space !!” @stevenhirshornbooks.com
The three things that stand out to me most about Lory’s guidance per publishing my poetry book are a) her commitment to excellence per all the details associated with publishing a book, b) her stellar communication throughout the process, and c) her design and artwork skills. The latter resulted in a cover image that felt like a perfect fit for the book, as well as polished artwork and formatting throughout the book. Lory solicited my feedback at each step of the publication process, including discussion per formatting details, patience with making changes to the proof, and clearly keeping me in the loop on next steps. She had helpful logistical advice as well, including per marketing and pricing. However, I think I most appreciated her amazing cover artwork, which was created as a result of several iterations. She created the final cover image in part by remembering a similar scene that she had encountered, which had themes similar to those discussed in my book, and then she turned that memory into art. As my poetry book was of a spiritual and artistic nature, this process by which we arrived at the cover artwork was very affirming to me. Overall, I highly recommend Lory as someone to have at your side during the publication process, and also for her design and artwork skills! -Lea Harrington
So many of us have a dream of one day becoming a published author; and sometimes we think that day will never come true. I kept the faith that my book will one day be published and then I met Lory Wingate and my dreams came true. Ms. Wingate embraced my book immediately and gave me encouragement and tools that I needed to make this book a success. She measured my story against another author of this genre and it scored well, giving me that confidence kick I had always wanted. Over the next few months she showed me the editing process and the common grammar errors that I was making, and how to correct them to make my writing look professional. Not only did my first book get edited I now know what mistakes to watch out for in future books. Her suggestions every step of the way from editing, book cover options, and the proper genres to focus on in Amazon for better sales was invaluable; not to mention the mound of online paperwork that needed to be done to have the copyright filed and the book published. She expertly navigated everything. The day my story went live for sale was the proudest day of my life. What an incredible feeling it is to create something such as a novel and have other people purchase it and enjoy my story. She made my dream come true. Thank you Lory, Kim Patterson, Author, The Family Jewels
